Week 10- Research for the Classroom

Hey everyone! So I tried out a bunch of different resource websites, but Ill say it straight out- nothing beats Google and Wikipedia.
I find that many of the suggestions were things that Google can find too.
I particularly liked using the tool in google that brings you results from the last 24 hours/week.
This can be very useful for narrowing your research to current affairs and events only.

Wikipedia Simple English is great. Just last week I wanted to bring a text to a class I was teaching from Wikipedia, and found myself deleting and changing half the words in it, as they were too hard. This is the perfect solution for that situation.

  1. I basically agree that Google is very useful and provides almost everything we need. The difference between Google and the other search engines is that the others are classified according to categories of information needs…

Also, I find the Wikipedia Simple English extremely useful for my own purposes as well as for teaching purposes.

    1. Both of you are right! Ronit pointed out one main point that I agree with. Google is awesome, and I personally use it on a daily basis as well. The thing is that sometimes, as teachers (but not just as teachers) we want to focus on one specific topic: someone's biography, a specific event or moment in the history, and I believe that when we have the different search engines, they can shorten our work significantly.

  2. I also wrote about the Simple English Wikipedia. It's a good tool not only for the students, because sometimes simple language helps us understand unfamiliar and complex topics.
